Locals are furious after a seaside town voted to allow nudists on every beach.

The mayor of the Cadiz in Andalusia, Spain, José María González, has created division in the area after scrapping the law which allowed cops to curb nude beachgoers.

It means every beach in the area will now allow nudism, sparking concern about areas where young children might be.

Carmen Sánchez said it could lead to problems for local people as "the beaches are inside the city".

The spokesman for the Popular Party warned that "what is naturism in one place is exhibitionism 15 metres further on”.

The mayor's views views have divided opinion in the Spanish town.

Ester Canero, president of the Cadiz Association of Large Families, meanwhile said: “Of course, we live in a free country.

“Very free, as we can see. But there are things I do not support and cannot agree with."

People complained the authority was keen to attract naked tourists rather than focusing on lack of parking, reports Express.co.uk.

González, however, responded by ridiculing critics. He said in a post on Instagram : “Yes, that’s right, we want to impose total nudism on the beaches of Cadiz, and we are also going to force you to go out in a flamenco dress on Sundays, to wear a cardigan for the cold on winter nights, and we will prohibit foreigners from wearing socks under their sandals.”

"It’s all part of our evil plan to take over the world.”

Other parts of Spain, such as the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and the Costa del Sol, have naturist beaches.

According to local guidance, tourists should be careful of breaking any rules about public nudity once away from the beach.

The Mirror told earlier this month how those heading to the Iberian peninsula should be weary of a range of new fines and laws that now apply in the area over removing their clothing,
